Coffee machine brands available to UK buyers include home espresso specialists such as Sage and Gaggia, automatic bean-to-cup makers such as De'Longhi and JURA, capsule systems such as Nespresso, and professional machines for offices and coffee bars such as Cimbali. Start with the kind of coffee you want to make, then compare the relevant brands rather than treating every machine as an alternative to every other one.
In short
- Choose your brewing method before your brand: automatic bean-to-cup, hands-on espresso, capsules, electric filter or manual brewing.
- A built-in grinder does not necessarily mean the machine handles the whole drink-making process.
- Compare the exact model, not just the badge: milk preparation, controls and cleaning arrangements vary within ranges.
- Read the UK warranty before buying, especially for communal use, imports or second-hand machines.
- Use the profiles below to narrow your shortlist, then check the model manual and support arrangements.

Follow this short reading path:
- Begin with machines and equipment if you have not chosen between espresso, filter coffee and manual brewing.
- Read brands available in the UK for the broader availability guide. This hub concentrates on finding the right brand profile, rather than maintaining a model-by-model catalogue.
- Finish with warranties and support before committing to a machine.
For this guide, prosumer means enthusiast equipment intended for home users who want some of the controls and construction associated with professional espresso machines. It is a useful description, not a guarantee of workplace suitability.
Coffee machine brands at a glance
This overview compares brewing method, user involvement and the most useful starting point. It is a navigation aid, not a ranking of coffee quality or reliability.
| Brewing route | Brands to investigate | Who this route suits | What to compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automatic bean-to-cup | De'Longhi, JURA, Siemens, Miele, Melitta, Philips, Krups, Gaggia | People wanting drinks made from beans with much of the preparation automated | Milk system, adjustment, cleaning and brew-unit access |
| Hands-on home espresso | Sage, Gaggia, De'Longhi, Dualit | People who want to prepare espresso themselves | Grinder arrangements, tamping assistance and steaming |
| Enthusiast espresso | La Marzocco, Rancilio, Lelit, Rocket, ECM, Profitec | People who enjoy adjusting and learning espresso preparation | Heating system, controls, water requirements and support |
| Professional and workplace | Cimbali | Offices and staffed coffee bars that make many drinks a day | Daily drink capacity, milk system, water connection and service cover |
| Capsule coffee | Nespresso, Dualit | People who prefer pre-portioned coffee | Exact capsule compatibility and milk preparation |
| Electric filter and manual brewing | Moccamaster, Wilfa, Melitta; Bodum, Hario, Chemex, Bialetti | People wanting a jug of filter coffee or a separate manual brewer | Serving capacity, filters, replacement parts and cleaning |
The manufacturers’ published ranges support these groupings, but several brands span more than one category. Check the relevant profile rather than assuming that all machines from a maker work alike.
Home espresso: Sage, Gaggia and De'Longhi
These are useful starting points if making the drink is part of the pleasure. A portafilter is the handled holder for the basket of ground coffee that locks into an espresso machine.
Sage offers a substantial home espresso range, including the Bambino, Barista Express, Dual Boiler and Oracle families. Start with Sage machines to compare compact machines with models offering more integrated preparation and assistance. The useful question is how much work you want the machine to do, not simply whether it has a grinder.
Gaggia covers both hands-on espresso and automatic machines. Its manual range includes the Classic family, while its automatic range includes names such as Cadorna, Magenta and Accademia. Read Gaggia machines when choosing between preparing the coffee yourself and using an internal brewing mechanism.
De'Longhi also crosses categories, offering automatic bean-to-cup machines alongside manual espresso equipment. Its published range includes Magnifica, Rivelia, Eletta and La Specialista families. Use De'Longhi machines to separate those different approaches before comparing individual models.
For a demonstration, ask to see the complete sequence: preparing the coffee, brewing, making milk foam and cleaning afterwards. Judge the routine you would actually repeat, rather than the finished drink alone.
Automatic bean-to-cup: convenience with different routines
An automatic bean-to-cup machine grinds beans and brews internally. Milk preparation may still involve a steam wand, an attached container or a separate milk connection, depending on the model. De'Longhi’s own range, for example, includes both steam-wand and automatic-frothing arrangements.
JURA
JURA concentrates its home offering on automatic coffee machines. Its UK range is a useful place to investigate if you want automatic preparation rather than a separate portafilter routine. Follow JURA machines to compare the relevant drink functions and maintenance instructions, rather than choosing by screen size or appearance alone.
Siemens, Miele and Melitta
These brands belong together for navigation, but not because their machines are interchangeable:
- Siemens offers automatic machines, including models with Home Connect app functions.
- Miele offers both countertop and built-in bean-to-cup machines.
- Melitta offers automatic bean-to-cup machines as well as electric filter brewers.
Read Siemens, Miele and Melitta when comparing automatic preparation, kitchen integration and the distinction between espresso-based drinks and filter coffee. For a built-in installation, make access for filling, cleaning and eventual servicing part of the conversation from the outset.
Philips and Krups
Philips offers automatic espresso machines, including models with its LatteGo and LatteGo Pro milk systems. Krups lists bean-to-cup equipment alongside traditional espresso and pod machines in its UK catalogue.
Use Philips and Krups to investigate their different preparation and maintenance arrangements. Ask the demonstrator to remove, rinse and refit the parts you would handle regularly. That is a more useful exercise than counting the drinks pictured on the display.
Capsules and compact alternatives: Nespresso and Dualit
Nespresso is best approached as a choice of system before a choice of machine. Original and Vertuo use different brewing technologies and different capsules: Original centres on espresso and lungo, while Vertuo covers a wider selection of serving sizes. Do not assume that capsules are interchangeable between them.
Read Nespresso machines when you want to compare those systems and their milk-making options. Decide which coffees you want to use before becoming attached to a particular machine.
Dualit offers both capsule equipment and hands-on espresso machines. Its UK range includes a Nespresso-compatible Pod Machine and the Espressivo Pro espresso machine. Read Dualit machines if those are the two routes you are considering, but verify the precise capsule format or coffee preparation requirements of the model concerned.
For either route, write down the exact machine name and product code. “Compatible with the brand” is not a sufficiently precise compatibility check.
Enthusiast espresso: compare the engineering, not the shine
This group is for readers who want to take an active role in espresso preparation. Start with a clear list of priorities: espresso only or milk drinks, available space, preferred controls, water arrangements and a practical repair route.
La Marzocco
La Marzocco has a dedicated UK home range that includes Linea Micra, Linea Mini and GS3 machines. Its published descriptions position these as home espresso equipment drawing on the maker’s café-machine approach. Read La Marzocco machines when investigating that class of equipment, rather than assuming its name makes every model appropriate for your circumstances.
Cimbali
LaCimbali, also written La Cimbali, is an Italian professional coffee-machine brand within Cimbali Group, whose history began in Milan in 1912. Its range covers super-automatic bean-to-cup machines, such as the S15 and S20, and traditional espresso machines. These are professional machines for cafés and workplaces rather than home kitchens, so consider them for an office or a staffed coffee bar. Read Cimbali office coffee machines for models, milk systems and UK support.
Rancilio, Lelit, Rocket, ECM and Profitec
Each of these makers deserves an individual model comparison:
- Rancilio offers the Silvia family, including the dual-boiler Silvia Pro X.
- Lelit offers machines such as Bianca, which has separate boilers and manual water-flow control.
- Rocket offers domestic espresso machines including Appartamento TCA, which the manufacturer specifies as a heat-exchanger design.
- ECM offers several espresso-machine types, including the dual-boiler Synchronika II.
- Profitec offers both single-boiler and dual-boiler equipment.
These are manufacturer-published descriptions, not independently measured performance findings. Read Rancilio, Lelit, Rocket, ECM and Profitec when you are ready to compare the actual heating systems, controls and preparation routines.
Ask to see the exact machine you are considering, with the grinder you intend to use. Request the manual before ordering, and ask the seller to identify who would diagnose and repair a fault.
Filter coffee and manual brewing brands
Do not choose an espresso brand by default if your main aim is to fill a jug or enjoy a hands-on filter brew.
Moccamaster and Wilfa are useful starting points for electric filter equipment. Wilfa’s UK catalogue includes Performance and Zense coffee makers; Moccamaster’s support material covers its domestic filter brewers and replacement parts. Read Moccamaster and Wilfa when comparing that route rather than espresso-based long drinks.
The manual-brewing names cover distinct devices: Bodum offers cafetières such as Chambord; Hario offers V60 drippers; Chemex offers glass pour-over brewers; and Bialetti offers Moka Express pots. Use Bodum, Hario, Chemex and Bialetti when choosing between those methods, not merely between their appearances.
For electric filter machines, check certification against the exact model. The Specialty Coffee Association evaluates submitted equipment against brewing standards; its home filter-brewer standard does not cover espresso machines, capsule brewers, cafetières or manual pour-over devices. Certification is therefore not a universal badge for everything a brand sells.
Warranties and UK support
A warranty should be read alongside the machine specification, not after something goes wrong. Compare its duration, eligible use, exclusions, territory and repair procedure.
Published warranty examples
These manufacturer terms were checked in November 2026. They are examples, not a promise that every product or transaction qualifies:
- Sage: normally a two-year manufacturer’s guarantee, unless a different period is stated for the product or component. Its standard terms are for private household use, except products specifically listed under Sage Commercial.
- De'Longhi: its UK guarantee document specifies two years for bean-to-cup and manual espresso machines. It excludes second-hand, communal and commercial use, alongside other conditions.
- JURA: its UK domestic warranty states 25 months from initial purchase, with authorised-dealer requirements where selective distribution applies.
- Moccamaster: its published terms state five years for domestic machines, with two years for professional or commercial use. Manufacturing defects are covered subject to the terms; poor-maintenance scale damage is excluded.
- Wilfa: its UK page states five years for Wilfa-branded products bought from 1 September 2020, for private household use. Commercial use and specified maintenance-related damage are excluded.
Do not treat these periods as a reliability league table. Instead, ask what happens during a claim: who receives the machine, whether collection is arranged, what packaging is needed and who authorises repairs.
For an office tea point, obtain written confirmation that the proposed use is covered. A domestic machine’s presence on a workplace shortlist does not override the manufacturer’s exclusions.
Warranty versus consumer rights
A manufacturer’s warranty is additional to statutory consumer rights. For UK consumer purchases, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires goods to be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described; it provides a short-term right to reject faulty goods, normally within 30 days, followed by other remedies subject to the circumstances. Statutory rights are against the seller, not simply the manufacturer.
Business purchases need separate consideration: the Act’s definition of a consumer concerns an individual acting wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft or profession. Do not assume that a company buying an office machine has the same consumer remedies.
Check the water and maintenance instructions
Hardness varies with the water supply, and hard water can cause scale in heated appliances. Obtain your local supplier’s information rather than using a supposed UK average; Thames Water, for example, provides postcode-based water-quality information. Then follow the machine maker’s requirements for treatment, filters and descaling.
Keep your proof of purchase, the applicable warranty and the maintenance instructions together. Before choosing between coffee machine brands, make sure you understand not only how the machine makes coffee, but how you will keep it working.
FAQ
Can a machine with a built-in grinder still require manual preparation?
Yes. A built-in grinder does not necessarily mean fully automatic brewing: the manufacturer’s operating sequence is the deciding factor. De'Longhi, for example, separates automatic machines from its manual espresso offering. Ask to see whether you must move a portafilter, tamp the grounds or steam milk yourself, rather than relying on a retailer’s category label.
Will a UK warranty cover a machine imported from another country?
Do not assume that it will. Territory and purchase-channel conditions vary: Wilfa UK says it provides warranty and customer support for UK purchases, while JURA publishes specific provisions for machines moved between European countries. Before importing, obtain written confirmation identifying the warranty provider and where a repair would take place.
Does an expired warranty mean I have no rights over a faulty machine?
No. A manufacturer’s warranty ending does not automatically end statutory consumer rights against the seller. Whether a remedy is available depends on the fault, the purchase and the applicable legal rules. GOV.UK expressly distinguishes warranties from those rights, so retain your purchase records even after the manufacturer’s stated cover ends.
